  • Turn back the thermostat when you’re away. If you’re out of the apartment all day at work, turn the heat back, or even turn it off. There’s no need to heat an empty apartment for eight hours each day!
  • Open the blinds. On a sunny day, open your blinds and curtains to let the sun heat your apartment!
  • Rearrange furniture. If you have large pieces of furniture in front of heating vents, do a little rearranging. Don’t block these vents so that heat can easily move around the room.
  • Use draft guards. If you have drafty windows and doors, buy draft guards or make them yourself. These are fairly affordable at home improvement stores and can help keep warm are in and cold air out.
  • Sign up for a budget plan. Contact your utility provider to see if they offer a plan to budget your bills. This will not reduce the amount you pay, but it will even out payments across all twelve months.

Heating bills can be a strain on your wallet during the winter, but these tips from your Ohio renters insurance agency can help!
