Protecting Your Home While on Vacation with OH Home Insurance

Many Insurance Associations including the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) say vacationing families should take several precautions while leaving their homes empty:

  • Store valuables in a secure area.
  • Have your home equipped with an alarm system.  Having an alarm system can also provide a discount on your Ohio Home Insurance.
  • Have a neighbor check your house periodically to ensure no break-ins have occurred.
  • Have a neighbor collect your newspapers and mail to avoid this red flag showing no one is home.  Have your post office stop your mail delivery while you are out of town.

Valuables and materials can be replaced, but your memories cannot.  You may also want to make sure your expensive jewelry is individually scheduled on your Ohio homeowners insurance policy (you will need an appraisal).  Most policies have a cap limit for the amount they will pay for unscheduled jewelry.  This limit may be way below the value of your jewelry or collectibles.

Keep your home safe while away to avoid the heartache of lost items and filing a home insurance claim.
